What a lovely way to die
In the arms of the one who loves you
Some must die alone; No lie
For they have no one to hold onto.

Poetice un rhye and rhythme and I love the flow of words great qrite dear poet
Thank you, AB, for reading my poem, and for your comment! : -)
Cancer is a heartless thief depriving us of our loved ones. But I am thankful you are commemorating her memory and Elizabeth Barrtett Browing's final memories of his beloved spouse.
Thank you, Roxanne. One of my famous lines is 'Cancer is like staring death in the face'- - If the cancer doesn't kill a person, they nearly feel as though the treatment might! But if one must die, it is far preferable to die being held by someone who loves you. The Brownings are amongst my favourite poets!
Wow! What an excellent and moving poem. And it must have been therapeutic for you. I witnessed firsthand the deaths of both my parents. And the only way that I was able to deal with the grief was by writing poetry. My sincerest condolences.
Thank you, Richard. Writing is frequently a method by which poets process their emotions, in traumatic situations. But you knew that already!
Taken pain and sorrow, and turning it into art is what the best of the human spirit is capable of, I am sorry for the tragedy that occurred to you, nothing can be said to make that kind of pain disappear, however art like this is rewarding for all of us. We should never die alone, poetry like this ensures we are not alone.
Kevin, your beautifully expressed comments are a blessing to me. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and appreciate my work! We are indeed not alone- - We are in the company of incredible fellow-poets!
Young love hopes to live forever.....this very line is the epitome of this magnificent piece of poetry! (10)
Thank you so much, Dr. Swain, for taking the time to read and rate! : -)
It does what a poem should do, provoke thought so you want to read it again.
The inspiration of Robert and Elizabeth Browning is so right. That is better than dying alone.
Love those two! Two of my favourite poets who also happened to be married to each other.
A witty reflection of life and death, well articulated and nicely penned with conviction. Thanks for sharing Poetess.
Thank you, Chinedu, for your sincere and encouraging comment! Thanks for reading! :)
Taking your feelings and turning it into a beautiful masterpiece......a true poet!
Lea-Beima, Heartfelt gratitude to you for your lovely compliment/ comment. Your words are a great encouragement! Thank you for reading!
Touched by true story, feeling your pain, a sobbing world of poets souls send you bouquets of words. May I attach mine with only two buds: Grateful Thanks!
Elena, What a perfectly pretty comment! I am happy to accept your two buds, fragrant and lovely. Thank you for reading, and for your sweet sentiment!
A heartfelt poem. For yourself not saying goodbye would have been heart breaking. Enjoyed reading your page and notes. Life is not all we want it to be & death is not always to fear.
Thank you, Lyn, for your perceptive comments. I journalised on the day my fiance' died: 'My Brave, Sweet Guy. I didn't even get to say Goodbye. I will always love you.' Life is a bittersweet mixture, which rarely goes according to the script (at least, our script!) So we should enjoy the sweet parts, while we have them. One of my poems is titled, 'Do not fear death.' Perhaps I'll share it with you someday. Your kind comments were much appreciated. Be blessed!
I don't recall how long ago it was now that the story of a young man with a terminal affliction crossed my path. The story was written by his surviving parents. The young man knew how he could expect an ever increasing depreciation of his capabilities. He had experienced the progression of the disease he had for years already. He knew further debility would be unbearable. For him personally and for his family that loved him and took care of him. Daily. Hourly. He had decided that it would be better not to prolong the agony for himself and his caretakers. But the state he lived in did not recognize the legal right to give him the relief he sought. So as not to implicate any on of those who loved him most and wished him the relief he sought, he had to vanquish himself to a lonely hotel room with means to personally ameliorate his condition. His loved ones were besides themselves to have to be apart from him while he sought his own end of suffering. Because of legal statues that they might be implicated as co-conspirators in murder.
No one should have to suffer or die alone (at least, not in a perfect, ideal world.) I think that's why my poem is touching so many hearts. A good number of poets are idealists, and we like happy endings! For those who prefer the darker side, my poem 'Sad, sad room' resulted from a true story of a man who took his life in a posh hotel room.
Poignantly beautiful. Indeed it's a lovely way to die in the arms of someone who loves you. Congratulations for the P.O.D.
Thanks Nudershada for reading & commenting. No better way to die than to be loved and comforted in that last moment. Blessings to you!

Frank, it is lucky for me that blushes cannot be detected across the internet! When a man of your stature is impressed by a short, simple poem, that tells me that there is something more going on in the essence of that short, simple poem. It's the giftedness for which none of us can take credit. We can only be grateful that we were blessed with poetic ability, and utilise it at every opportunity. Thank you for your warm comment!
My sincere condolences for your loss Ms. Poetess...This is as beautiful a poem poem, as it is sad and sobering. Poignant and at the same time, hopefully permitting a measure of closure in knowing she saw something that in her last words, was Beautiful which should let you now that she is most definitely in a far better place than we.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Your penchant for pristine structure is impressive, as is your choice of impact words in closing out your poems... Keep that pen pumping, young lady! ~FjR-'17~
FJR, always lovely to hear from you, with your experience and expertise! With heartfelt gratitude, I cherish your support and encouragement! Thank you so much.
Life goes on; you did your duty Know that love gives second chances....beautifully expressed.
