Solitude seems so soothing to melancholic heart,
But memories keep pinching by their sadder part.
Ha! I could never understand the ways of destiny,
But what is the use of reciting the pain in a litany.
Entombed in my heart, the slain love in timeless rest,
I being its sole keeper till the day I find my own crypt.
Let the happier part amuse my readers to an extent,
When love was in the air with a fragrance nascent.
Sophomore I was in college in a town somewhat away,
Came home in summer holidays for a few days to stay.
The girl next door was no more an unnoticeable entity,
Treaded to the zenith of her chaste unblemished beauty.
Still I remember the day when I whispered in her ear,
The most sought after word in a murmur she could hear.
Her trembling frame with eyes closed in a trance unending
Flushed cheeks and heaving breasts conveyed everything,
Unchartered vast realms of happiness she floated into,
I was the delightful navigator to lead her on path thereto.
Words upon words of love I said in a maddening swoon,
Showered her with kisses umpteen like a frenzied loon.
Passionate feelings were soaring as tidal waves of main,
Manifesting to break all the bounds in a rapacious gain.
But the devil or the satan failed to push us in the fire of sin,
Lust surrendered as the pious love could lastly take a win.
Numerous were such trysts when our hearts resonated,
Explored new levels of ecstatic exuberance in love librated.
Enamored with her, my soul, never to break the vows,
Love is such a mystic phenomena with time it grows.
Wings of time fluttered without any pause or intermission,
Gliding we were also in the serene sky of lover's passion.
Homeric Helen personified she was with all nubile grace,
But I was an ordinary man, not the Paris of Priam's race.
Sweet like honey she was beyond wordy expression,
Prettiest among pretty damsels with angelic disposition.
Fear of losing her was a constantly nagging feeling I had,
Absence of her even for a day made me deprived and sad.
Same was her plight, holding my hand lovingly was her rite,
Beholding me ever with serene eyes was her dreamy delight.
No less than a paradise I felt into a utopian land altogether,
Life moved on in total mirth with love as an inherent flavor.
But all good things never last forever despite our efforts all,
Something ominous was going to bring an unpredicted fall.
An axe fell sharp on my happiness to make a chasm irreparable,
Came to know of her wedding by her long missive unbelievable.
Rushed to home to try my luck in averting the misfortune,
To my great dismay, race was lost without time opportune.
She was bidding adieu with tears flowing while boarding a car,
I felt lifeless as if my soul was separating to be away and far.
Could not move an inch like a stony figure in deep sorrow,
Thought came into mind how could I live my tomorrow.
Nobody could know my condition of a gambler losing bet,
My dreams were shattered even before they were met.
But life never ends even with the loss of a dearest one
Not a loss but a journey of love halfway with someone.
