My soul wrapped its arms around yours
As you embraced me.
My heart opened
And was dusted off by your kiss.
Each ray of the morning sun
No longer brought incurable dread
But brought hope that it may pass.
Every wave of your laughter
Reverberated through my ears
And into my brain
Where my admiration for you laid.
Each tear you wiped away from my eyes
Enhanced the blinders you put in place.
One night I turned away
And told you all you had missed,
And I told you what he did.
You swore you cared
And you swore you understood the consequences.
You swore it drove you to stay.
As the weeks went on
Your sky eyes seemed miles away
And the love I had felt from you grew very faint.
You said some girl had come on to you
And that you had pushed her away.
But sadly, my love,
The blinders had come off.
I knew she gave you
What I couldn't
Because of him.
What you swore would make you stay
Ultimately tore us apart,
And tore the arms off my soul,
Leaving it incapable
Of embracing anybody else's.
You reinforced my doubts
And you reinforced my fear
Of love and attachment.
