As I lie in the darkness
Louder than the ticking clock
A persistent monotone filling up the space

Nosheen, a poignantly powerful write that is universal in appeal. Beautifully crafted with the last three lines echoing from the poet to the reader. As one reads we throw all the words into our minds living again the appearance of our ghosts. ++10 Robert

I have come back, to visit your earlier writing, because I have so enjoyed your recent work and here I find this dark gem of literary prowess. I often do not look at the title of a poem until I have read the body, and I am so glad that I did that here. The first 2/3 of the work carries us haunting line by haunting line deeper into the darkness of your spirit. The imagery is powerful and heavy. We hear the oppressive ticking of the clock, we feel the weight of the fog pressing down upon us, cutting off our breathing. The disconnect of time contrasting with the monotone of the clock, the sense of sensory deprivation contrasted with the oppression of the senses, and still we do not know why you have brought us here. We go deeper, perhaps unwillingly, but how can we resist the power of your imagery? And then, you reveal what haunts this dwelling and deprives you of sleep and the comfort of peace. The past, buried but not reconciled, rises up and wounds thought healed begin to ache again. And how can we face the future, if the past is still haunting us with pain and accusations? How can we have peace about what lies ahead, when we are trapped here in this darkness? Your last 3 lines are the heartbreaking finale, and bring the whole theme into fruition. How lonely it is to be trapped within ourselves! A wonderful work of poetry, dear Nosheen. A pleasure to read, dark though its contemplations. It makes us happy for the light when we have it.

I have written my share of poems in honor of Edgar Allan Poe. Poems meant to convey a certain nightmarish impression and yet they pale against the all too real fears of this writing. Cut from the flux of time, all sounds reach me, crying out for the dawn to break. Heart wrenching and terrifying.

A pretty painting of a sad subject that is rich in realism. Well done my friend!

I am truly impressed by your poem on loneliness. So perfect depiction of pangs of loneliness, fear of darkness, anxiety of the past and future, of images seen and imagined all make this a great poem to read and feel. I have rated this poem 10/10.

A gloomy loneliness gets accentuated by shadows of the past memories- I had buried deep - and the uncertainties of future- cloaked in black shroud. Great imagery spun around suspense. Thanks. A quote: I’m cut off from the flux of time / Darkness descends over the heart / My heart cries out / For the loneliness to die.
