I cheered a smile, and laughed a while
But my heart is tender still, I grieve to the sill
And in a boy’s mind, my age offends to rile
Come to me, and you’ll find
How I live so fast, and die so young
In a young boy’s mind!
Little Missy, Little Missy you have but lived!
Take from my hand this Earth, pushed unto unnatural birth
And see I have crafted my spine to a poet’s bow,
My port is burnt, blood spills from the futtock’s hearth
And I am no longer old, I have learnt!
Please Little Missy, Little Missy I have but lived
Won’t you listen, Little Missy, Little Missy
Or are you perfectly still upon the water’s edge?
