Liquidfish Poem by Jenny Kalahar

Liquidfish

Rating: 5.0

Bluegreen fish
So small you need to invite yourself to recline
on your stomach near the slick, grassy pond edge
to see them properly
to see that they are made of liquid themselves
more evidently made of liquid
than you or I.
And one curious fish pauses
looking up
into your great bluegreen eye
more liquid than anything else on the exterior of a man
and he imagines swimming up
up and into it
to see what it is that a man can see of the world
a world not made
entirely of pond
or wave
or wet
