Limerick: Slipped Disk

I must have a slipped disk in my back;
My whole body seems all out of whack.
My left leg is quite numb
And I can't feel my thumb,
But my doctor's no help; he's a quack!

Actually, my doctor is very competent, so my apologies to him for that last line, but I had to make it rhyme, didn't I? He told me years ago that the numbness in my leg was caused by a bulging or slipped disk in my back. He said surgery was an option, but had only a 50% chance of being successful, so I chose not to do it at the time.

(Maybe now, years later, the odds have improved, but what good would back surgery do me when I really need new knees and new hips?)

If I were a car, my brother would say just to jack up the radiator cap and drive a new car under it.

Also there is nothing wrong with my thumb, but I had to make another rhyme on that line. I had the idea of using a different body part there, but thought I had better sit on that for a while.

With multiple back problems and near debilitating sciatica, I can relate. I loved the Author's notes and quote from your brother
