Verily, the traders hoard a commodity for their profit motive and create an artificial scarcity. The poem provides an insight to the social issue.

Quite true! Actually there is no real scarcity for onions. Those who want to reap extra profit create a kind of artificial scarcity! The large onions we purchase at exorbitant prices are often rotten! A genuine issue to be protested and you have cloaked it in humour!
