We are NOT just mere mules, Valsa Dear, It is much worse than that, I do fear! Not just underrated, perhaps we are hated; before long we will all disappear!

An excellent limerick that describes a real situation; limerick, nay poetry at large, being downrated everywhere.

Sadly, I have been pooh-poohed by my own people for, as they say, 'wasting time' on writing poetry! Particulaly, my efforts at writing poetry in English, rather than my mother tongue, are oftn laughed at. But thanks to poetry, I live on, as I engage with them, either writing or reading. Poetry is the culmination of the yearnings of the heart, no matter whether anyone reads them or not.

'Thanks to poetry, I live on'! It cannot be put any better! Thanks a lot Khairul.... for stating a truth that can be understood only by people who have poetry in their blood!

A perceptive and wonderful limerick from the Queen of Limericks. It is indeed a pity that schools ceased to teach limericks. Limericks are very entertaining form of poetry. They are crafted with wit, brevity and skill. Limericks are hard to weave especially when our primary language is not English. I hope they will reconsider teaching limericks again. A well thought out and conveyed write.

Sadly they are left alone Are limerick writers then mere mules? Not just Limerick, poetry itself has become a thing of the past. Recently, somebody asked, why i am wasting my time writing poems. Sadly Valsa, this is the age we live in. An apt and factual Limerick.....10

You are absolutely right Geetha....! In the eyes of many, poetry writing is a useless pursuit. But they do not know how much of joy it gives to the poet! For him/ her each poem is a new creation and he/she exults at the birth of each poem.....! Thank you Geeta....

It is my personal experience that LIMERICKS HAIKUS SENRYUS VIRUSKUS are all REDUNDANT Even Poetry has or is losing its Charm But there is no harm Poetry releases all human charms and relieves tension raising alarms Soo compose only FREE verse have something to say inlight verse with which you can with SIMPLISTIC POETS PP ME converse Don't make your life terse compose humourustic funny light poesy poetess

It is always comfortable and easier to be free from all tethers. To write poetry within certain regulations needs discipline and effort! Each poetic form has its own unique charm! So I don't think writing poems other than free verse is a waste of time. However glad that you have expressed your opinion openly, Poet Yeps Poet!

Not just limerick alone, poetry itself is shunned throughout the world. It is no longer eulogised as before; for that matter, not even traditional literature is! Though centered around limericks, this piece exhibits the bedevilling truth of poesy's predicament. Now-a-days, only simplistic poetry is extolled, rendering linguistic splendour unnecessary. Poetry is not just a rhyme or verse, not a mere hymn too: it is the amalgamation of semantic acme and expression.

You are absolutely right Vaibhav....! Poetry has lost all its former grade of appeal....! It is hardly read by anybody! People have grown too pragmatic and materialistic. Emotions or sentiments have no place in the lives of most of the people.....

Sadly they are left alone but still Limericks are having values although these are not taught in schools. Limerick persons are not fools but they are truly clever persons who can give laughter in other's face. This poem is very fun giving and brilliantly penned....10
