At night Tom heard a knocking at his door
Known to be brave, he tried to ignore
Said a voice- 'I am Death
Come to take your breath'
Afterwards, none saw Tom, the rest is lore!
I can imagine brave Tom's futile, brave attempt to ignore the inevitable. Terrific black humour which of course makes us all pay attention when we have our own visit due at some point.
Am I missing a mystery in the last line? Do you mean to say brave Tom really passed away. Perhaps, physically abducted by death? Well rhymed as a limerick should be. (10)
I just wonder if Tom had his headphone on then would he have heard the knock..Loved it. Interesting write.
This is wonderful. Death comes like a knock in the middle of the night. You have done a really great job here.10
Brilliant limerick! ! Crafted with wit and dark humor. Great presentation enhanced with an apt picture.
to MyPoemList! bri :) bri very fine work. i'd recognize Her knock any night.
Shiver me timbers! ! ! A limerick that is not just a happy-go-lucky rhyme but a scary cautionary tale about people [? ] knocking on your door at night. I really like this, Valsa.... it is a very superior limerick.... plus I like being scared ;) 10++++++++++++
Facing the ways of life! Born today and, to die one day. Thanks for sharing this poem with us.
It may be just a fun, but it's happening in Pakistan, Someone knock s the door of one, after that either robbers come in, or the one is shot dead or they take the one with them and one's name is included in the list of missing persons.

Brilliant rhyming and great story as brave Tom takes his last breath as knocking on his door is death.
