Like Rain They Poured Poem by Elizabeth Hefty

Like Rain They Poured

Like rain they poured
Words
Words
Lies
Deceit
Drowning me
Pulling me
Down
Down
Further into a maelstrom of lies
Yet I fought
I fought
Trying to see the good
Behind the icy eyes
That must have once been
Once
Long ago
Or maybe never
Perhaps it was never there
And life broke him
Before he took his first breath
But I'll never know
Although I tried
I'm too tired of fighting
Tired of swimming
Endlessly against
His tide
So I let the words rain down on me
Like acid on my skin
My ears not hearing
Anymore
