Oh no! My phone battery died!
How can I begin to explain this amazing sight - this awesome light?
I shall endeavour to describe the wonder that I've seen -
But I cannot do it justice -
Just as my phone-camera cannot capture the scene;
But I must try - and here's why:
Streaks of white and pink and cream
Fan out across the wide expanse,
And dotted here and there about
Are puffy clouds of pink and white like lofty balls of candy floss or cotton-wool.
The mighty dome that is our sky
Has transformed from a monochrome blue
To a full pallet of colour, vibrant and new.
There is an intense orange and scarlet and salmon and baby blue, one colour flowing into another, with no telling
where one starts and the other ends.
On the horizon, like sea-vessels drifting, ever so slowly,
Are the grey-black clouds with their silver linings.
Thrown into stark relief are the black silhouettes of still leafless trees,
And as the minutes tick by,
Very gradually, the sky darkens and in the East,
We see a blanket of deep navy blue,
Which in turn, as the light fades
Is replaced by a black night space
And in the West
At the meeting of the sky and land
There is a deep orange band
As we bid adieu to the sun,
And welcome the moon
Now we begin to see the city lights,
Headlamps and street lights,
Shop signs and traffic lights,
And litttle red dots of light
Atop tall buildings and cranes,
Like tiny lighthouses for aeroplanes.
And all too quickly we've forgotten
The wonder, the beauty of a sunset sky.
I may not be able to completely convey,
The splendour, the glory of the ending of the day,
But I hope that in these words of mine
Something of my gratitude you will divine.
