Life Sans Progeny? Poem by C. Muralidara Kannan

Life Sans Progeny?

Rating: 5.0

Thy sky turns luminent with
the Sun and Moon.
But the gale galaxy is complete with twinkle twinkle little stars.

Our mirthful time of
star gazing is going to be
Out of place.
Who is going to lisp
Twinkle...Twinkle...?

Some said
There will not be trees.
Some said
There will not be water.
But nobody seems sad
There will not be kids.

Whither goes great Gibran's adage
'Children are life's longings'!

Our children say
'No' for children
They don't want these
personal belongings.

Is it that the smiling kid
should not pee?
Is it that the munching kid
should not poo?
Or the growing cost of
education and healthcare
weigh you down.

There has to be
Something basically
Wrong...The modern
marriages...living together...no kids!
Creating a chronic malady of
a menacing missing link
in the sphere of family.

You don't want
Children. How can we go without grandchildren?
Had we thought so, would
you have been here?

For we
Always considered
Progeny a celebration.

A life sans progeny
Is a tree without leaves.
A dark sky without any stars
and a wild stream
without the living waters.

Saying no to little
angels is
an unpardonable blasphemy.
