Miseries of life, desire for perfection, and desire for possession are three major themes of the poem "Life's Tragedy." Dunbar is of the view that sometimes we feel misery because we do not have certain things such as singing talent, love, or tune of some song.

There is much in this good poem I can`t enter here. I will just say that Dunbar is a poet of whom little is said when talking about black poets. I hope that would change.
