While celebrating Deepavali -
The festival of lights in India, today,
Let me try to bring a smile
On a little girl's face,
With a bowl full of rice and curry,
And a box of chocolates!
Let me get her a new dress to wear,
A frock with puffy sleeves and frills,
So that she can skip, jump, play
Like a doll with her friends,
Without feeling ashamed,
Of her torn and tattered garment!
Let me get the little angel
A set of books to read,
So that she can educate herself
With mythological stories of the yore,
With the growth in modern technology,
And an awareness of the progress all around!
Let me get her a drawing book
With colour pencils and a painting box,
So that she can draw the mountains, rivers,
Paint the trees, flowers, birds with bright colours,
Make her life a meaningful existence and,
Ah! celebrate her life with wonder, joy and cheer!
