Liberating The Invalid Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Liberating The Invalid

You need the dream of a convalescent turtle
To prop up what small pride can be gathered together
To heal a damaged constitution, a fractured ego
And still he'd freak out and demand of his peers
"Why do you taunt me with descriptions of things I'll never be able to do? "
Still, he'd shuffle on with red-rimmed eyes

Long is the rise of the bedridden id
Keeping you outside from where the human beings entwine
The name tag reading "my name is…." with the space below left blank
Pictures of Asian children happily chasing balloons in a field on plates you will never eat off

You are the dormant mess of the body made prison
Where counted off thousands yield surplus minutes or more
Where teachers never received apples on their desks
And where they opened up your right side for exploratory purposes

You found a goal of liberating fantasy
Creative attempts to crawl out of your yard
Pace punishes those who gave birth to a mistake
But the future will recognize those who made something out of nothing
