DU JING-MEN SONG BIE (Farewell at Jingmen Ferry)
-- by Li Bai (701-762)
-- Translated by Frank C Yue
Below Jingmen Mountain, as I leave by the ferry --
Down south to the land of Chu m'self, the boat does carry.
There tall mountains end and begins the level plain
Where the great river flows through desolate terrain.
Like a flying mirror, the Moon sets across the skies;
At the river's edge, mirage of towering clouds arise.
O dear waters of my native village, come and float
Gently, gently for ten thousand miles this traveller's boat!
