Let’s Unite, We All.........There! Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Let’s Unite, We All.........There!

We are divided on caste, creed, race ‘n religion
Color, nationality, geography ‘n politics
Costumes, habits and habitats inherited
Lingo spoken, music and dances cultured

Eating, drinking and sleeping habits adopted
Nuptial customs, funeral rites, values upheld
On the education, skills, vocation and business
We remain at odds and alienated on same land

From birth to tomb, cradle to parlor, day in day out
In visions, missions and professions handheld
Humans ‘r profoundly glued and bonded by disunity
We are ever at loggerheads, in the struggle for unity

Just one place, free of discrimination of any sort
Be it with humans or animals or divine
We all are one and the same once enthralled
Three feet or so in earth, below ground level

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
May Day, the day of workers is round the corner. This is an attempt to view never ending disunity among humans from a different angle.
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

There is an expression in my native Malayalam - landlord of six feet of earth. This poem brings out this truth.
