The theme of the poem is related to dejection and wounded pride and of covering them up with nonchalance and confidence...good expressive write...10
meaningful Sam...a plead for self identity a cactus or a flower...strong or fragile...lovable or not... may we be ourselves..to live not within the expectations of others... i love the thoughts, Sam lovelots, Maia
a flower and cactus are both His creation. we humans also are multifaceted. it requires courage to stand for your convictions. oh yes, we need to live and let live. let me be its a plea don't you see I want to be free just let me be... Mamta

I like the comparison between cactus and flower. A flower is perceived as beautiful, useful, good; while a cactus is maybe seen to not have much beauty, use or worth, so the poem is saying, good or bad, let whatever is just be what it is (and also in a manner of saying; the value that men give to things is not the eternal value..cactus exists because they have a place here, along with flowers, whatever and in spite of what men might have to say about it)
however intensly you may feel, they will try their level best not to let u be what u are.i think, sam, life is a fight, a struggle to be yourselves against all odds.
Yes, 'let me be what i am' and be accepted for what I am! ! ! The worst part is, we are often victims of rash censure! ! ! I read this poem right when it was just what I needed at the moment sir!
And you have become so wonderfully you in your profound poems. Take care. Kind wishes, Sandra
