- what you don't say, says it all - you don't say things like it's about running the race not winning or other attempts at cheerful moralizing - (NO- better to have loved and lost) , no attempt to find solace in such thoughts but standing in the grief of the moment, taking it 'on the chin' we say, meaning not deflecting the force of the blow, taking it in as if you were a dispassionate bystander of the phenomenon of pain and loss, but of course you are neither bystander nor dispassionate... rd

An innovative metaphor, Julia, but I feel the language that you have used to build the metaphor could be more imaginative. I mean to be constructive, you must know that.
