I LOVE this poem. First, its clever, because it again, brings to mind another speech I had to memorize as a child, Friends, Romans, Countrymen, Lend me Your Ears..., from Shakespeare's, Julius Caesar. While the content is completely different, the sound of the phrase Lend me....affects how I read on. Second, I like the choice of images, rotating between funny and serious, with the use of one well-selected couplet, I've an itchy pimple to scratch/And a torn garment to patch. Is this a metaphor? Finally, I enjoy the exchange between imagined poets while I read this piece. And the ending is perfect!
Wonderful poem! Splendidly developed! Great vocabulary! This is what a poem should be. Regardless of the subject matter, which may move us to tears or to laughter, may make us forget the sorrows of the world or burn those sufferings into our memory, a poem is a piece of literature and must be artistically made. I admire your ability to do justice to both halves of poetic creativity - the subject matter and the poetic craft. OH, can I borrow your pen! !
