Lemon Trees Poem by Kelly Boutin

Lemon Trees

I've got a thousand lemon trees
To plant around your boundaries
And keep you safe from the thieves
I'll gift you love and security
God give you sanity

I'll plant a thousand lemon trees
All around your boundaries
You take on each day as it breaks
Don't forget to make lemonade

I'll plant a few tangerines
A sweet orange or so
But because you are the sweetest one of all
They will always grow for you

When I'm old and you ask me
What it all means
I'll tell you the meaning of life to me
Is a thousand lemon trees

To plant around the boundaries
Of the ones you love
To make them feel safe and free
To grow up

And if you have children of your own
One day when they come to see me
I'll tell them the secret of love
And give them each a lemon seed

To plant around their boundaries
