Learning To Live With My Regrets Poem by LeeAnn Howard

Learning To Live With My Regrets

I really cannot write today,
I plumbed the depths of hurt and pain.
Friend, you know I'd like to say
That there's something left to gain,
But let's face it, nothing's there,
Just old burden we can't bare.

Once I thought that we were fighters
Though we never stood our grounds,
And I need no more reminders
Of the heaven out of bounds,
Of the wasted youthful age -
Failures drowned in wrath and age.

Listen, If I could just rewind,
I'd take a chance on our fight
Despite the odds, losing my mind,
Swear, I'd do what's right -
Standing tall there by your side
We'd take together every ride.

Nonetheless we've both learned
One can't buy back time
Nor trade the bruises earned
For a dollar or a dime.
When you bluff and lose your bets
You get to live with your regrets.
