A letter from father to daughter is like necklace of pearls (पिता से बेटी के लिए एक पत्र मोती के हार की तरह है) and you added ear-rings, nose ring and bangles to it, and I see it as a complete Jewellery box now. Marvelous poem.....10++++

I read this poem about two years ago and was mesmerised by the respectful and humble tribute a grateful daughter to her father. Ever since that day, I was planning to to do its Hindi translation but somehow it could be done. Now, the work is finished, as such, I feel privileged to post the same. Dr. Geeta Radhakrishna Menon has been very kind to grant permission for its translation.

Geeta, this is a magnificent, transcendental work. Not so much in literature deals with the father-daughter relationship. Only a father could understand the quality of a lotus flower on muddy terrain! A perfect 10!

Oh, Geeta. Your memories have been implanted in me. Wave functions collapsing. Life, seemingly chaotic. Ends becoming from unintentional means. I will indeed read the other part. Peace!

Thanks a lot dear Unnikrishnan, I am so happy that you liked this simple poem. We are lucky to be born to excellent fathers who taught us the dignity of labour. I was touched to read about your father who worked with the farmers. I have great respect for farmers. Even though my father was in the army, he respected all people who worked hard. Thank you Unni, once again, for such a lovely review.

Money was very scarce, but never spoke to us about it. And always found time for public service, though didn't speak high about it. He was one of the founders of our farmers credit cooperative scociety, and was its honorary secretary for many years, until the society was big enough to pay for a whole time secretary. Many more. Great poem. Thank you.

Part 4 When we were old enough, we also joined him, and learned all the agriculture related works, to work in the field. The work in the fields kept us in good health all through. And formed our characters, taught us to respect labour, inculcated a fantastic work culture. And encouraged us to read, provided books.

Part 3 I remember fondly, how my father taught us dignity of labour, by example. He was a school teacher. But, his days started early in the morning, when our workers start their day in our fields. He used to join them in the field and work in our fields until it is time to start for school.

Part 2 Your parents never talked to you about amassing physical wealth, but living an untouched, untainted, uncluttered and unhampered life. A great father. And of course, like father, like daughter.I

Hi Geeta, Every parent desires that his/her child grows up as a good human being. This is signified by your using the metaphor of lotus, which is quite eloquent. The parent would like the child to tread the path of life carefully, and conduct oneself so well that one is an example for others around. Continued..

Part - 2 This poem is a best honour to your father who expressed in a letter to you to be pink petals of lotus to be ever fresh without a spot of dirt on it. His hope on you was.........as you have penned..... Never to be swayed by temptations, Never to be distracted from my studies, To remain like a jewel in the lotus that never lets off its lustre. A beautiful poem with brillant expression.10

Part - 1 This poem is a great tribute to your father who was in a determination to provide you well education, to make you a lotus which remains pure and perfect, untouched, untainted, uncluttered and unhampered though it stands on muddy water.
