A beautiful tribute to a wonderful poetess Dr. Geeta Radhakrishna Menon. She deserves all praise and profuse admirations. A gift to this august poetry site.
A profound message contained in this autobiographical poem. Indeed we must be like lotus that never loses its lustre. To face life bravely despite unfavourable surroundings is what makes man great. Thanks for sharing this gem.
A brilliant translation in Hindi from English poem written by Dr. Geeta Radhakrishna Menon about " Leaflets From My Life - My Father's First Letter On Life & Lotus" has been made by you dear Manga Ji. Thanks for sharing and for juxtaposition of the original poem.
Beautiful translation apart it was a lesson in learning literary aspects of Hindi. There is however one word I am a bit curious about: अनवरुद्ध, can you dear poet tell me more about it? Let me also take this opportunity to congratulate Dr Geeta for the brilliant original.
Sir, thanks for a very fine review of the poem and for your comments. Sorry for being late in replying to your query. The word unhampered has been translated by me as अनवरुद्ध based on various sources: (keyword: unhampered)
(2) .wordtodictionary - अवरुद्ध का विलोम (antonym or opposite) अनवरुद्ध .aamboli/dictionary/unhampered-meaning-in-hindi अबाधित, बेरोक, अनवरुद्ध, अप्रतिहत .hindisamay/content/3159/2/-कोश-वर्धा-हिंदी-शब्दकोश अनवरुद्ध (सं.) [वि.] बिना अवरोध के; निर्विघ्न; बेरोकटोक।
Thanks so much dear poet, meticulous. Yes indeed now I know, an + avaruddha. Aniruddha is one that can't be stopped (in a battle) ...but I now find a lot of road blocks... and hope, you feel much better now.
AND.... p.s. i sent one comment yesterday, and forgot it, and left another today, shorter. that's what can happen when one gets interrupted....AND...old. bri :)
Rajnish, Geeta says, if i don't read your translation to English, she will no longer treat me to ice cream [or anything else] in her lair. st.3 i'd delete the ' from Grandparent's st.4 i would delete " towards" 'Twas nice of you to translate. ;) bri
st.3, line 6 use no apostrophe :) Surely she is NOT COMPARING India to " MUDDY WATERS” **! ! ** " The beautiful lotus stands on muddy waters, Yet, remains so pure and perfect; " i can NOT vouch for the Hindi version, BUT the English version is pretty D+N good. bri :)
Rajnish ji, i am so touched. I had tears in my eyes when i i was reading this poem. Remain blessed always.
It is so strange and uncanny, but yesterday - 22nd Feb was the day that my father passed away,19 years ago in 2001. And you have posted this poem on my Dad's letter to me the same day. We had a ceremony at home in his memory. It is amazing! The noble spirits are immortal and i do believe, they guide us.
What a wonderful translation of my poem, dear Rajnish ji. In fact, your Hindi translation is so beautiful that it has surpassed the original poem of mine in English. I simply loved this poem, Rajnish ji. I do not find enough words to express my thanks and appreciation for your marvelous poem.
Thanks, Dr Dillip, for your kind words about this poem on a re-visit. All credit goes to Dr Geeta.
