Le Poire Poem by Procyon Mukherjee

Le Poire

We were simple like the pear
Grooming in modesty
A shelf of books
And some tidbits of living around
Gathering habits of giving

At the market the pear got reckoned
But they are honest in their taking
As the corporate assessment is made
The engine of business is sometimes
About who is driving it
And there is nothing toxic about it

My students tell me now, "your effort is good, it makes up for the lack of it in us", I can hardly complain

I am more than just a silent observer
Now, my chores are about interpreting
Causes, not effects of a cause
That is sometimes what businesses reverse

The pear, as I see myself
Not the Apple,
I must wait
My turn, listless among the things
That I grew up with
