Layla Poem by Matloob Bokhari

Layla

LAYLA
Stars like jewels of the night are shining
Friends are meeting in the street corners
The night sky is beset with stars
Lovers are talking each other, looking at the moon
Fragrant breeze is playing with musky cedar branches
Layla dressed in silvery silk is coming
Beauty of the earth is welcoming the sweet light
O Layla! shining brighter than the milky way
Crickets are singing songs, frogs are calling their mates
Qais is lamenting in intense blackness of dark room
'O tearful stars of the sky, eternal is sunset
I am all alone; all my heart is wailing for Layla
Layla!
I am burning in the fire of love
I am a moth fluttering around candle
I am taking bath in my tears
O my dearest lady!
Your name brings peace to my soul
I am kissing the walls of your house
So stricken, sadness is without end for me'
'O Qais! My friend! Come out of Reason's House
I am Shah Shams, a whirling darvash
I have drunk the wine of love
I am lost in the love to find Love
In the fine frenzy of rapture,
I am all joy! all truth, all love, all beauty
Filled with ecstasy, my soul is flying like air in the blue azure sky
Beyond boundaries of the world!
Beyond time! Beyond space
