Late Night Table Talk Poem by Grant House

Late Night Table Talk

While you are up, she said, would you please bring me some peace of mind and a little well being?

Okay, he said. Sure

Oh, wait. That won't be necessary. I'll find them inside of myself, she exclaimed, holding her right hand over the place where she had come to believe her heart was in her chest.

For just a moment there, he said, I felt important. Like I had something to contribute to you. A sense of self worth and purpose.

I can find them inside myself, he declared mockingly as he covered his right nipple with his left like a left-handed salute.

She laughed, realizing how unnecessarily earnest she must have sounded.

She leaned way over and looked him square in the eye. I'll offer you self worth and purpose if you bring me some peace of mind and a little well being. Deal?

Sounds good to me, he replied smiling. Now, may I show you where your heart is?

Of course dear, she twinkled, reaching out to lightly touch his arm. Where would you like to start?
