Sia araldo del nostro dolore e tromba,
Al suono di cui, ali casta obbediscono.

dear Álain Christie, William Shakespeare's The Phoenix and the Turtle-dove [symbols of perfection and of devoted love] is an allegorical poem on the death of Ideal Love. It is a difficult text (indeed it is one of Shakespeare's most obscure works) , with many historical references - 'natural' to many, probably, in 1601, when it was first published (untitled) - which have lost their real meaning since. A good deal of the allegorical interpretations are also conjectural. Add that its language is compressed, so you should easily understand how difficult a 'right' interpretation of the text is for everybody, nowadays - scholars also. A good translation needs to face all such difficulties. Yet, now you come and give us an 'easy going' Italian translation of such a difficult text.. and when it happens that an Italian reader (in this case, myself) post this simple truth, you answer citing Philippe Néricault-Destouches.. Well, it is true: ''la critica è facile, l'arte è difficile'' [Criticism is easy, Art is difficult]. Thus - speaking about 'ART' - you should show a bit more humility, don't you? Maybe, I'm ''impertinent'' (as in Destouches Le Curieux Impertinent?) .. But Destouches also wrote '' L'Ambitieux et l’indiscrète ''... ;) You see, I didn't want to offend you and I'm sorry if you took my words as an insult. I see that you translated Shakespeare's text in French, too. I suppose French is your native language and probably that translation is much better than your Italian one. I'm not good in French, so I cannot say. But Italian is my native language.. For this reason I wrote those few words of mine.. friendly regards Fabrizio

La traduzione italiana è alquanto scadente, mi spiace dirlo.. The Italian translation is quite poor, sorry to say..

La critique est aisée et l'art est difficile (Philippe Néricault-Destouches) Quite poor! Is that all you've found to say to help me improve on it? Thanks for your assistance, Fabrizio.
