How I wish you'd let me know,
Before you decided to go.
When you came to play,
You seemed to be okay.

While humor is often very public, the suffering of loneliness and depression is often very quiet and private. Many suffer in silence and no one else ever knows. I am very familiar with when: Your heart was always up and down. A well written and sad tribute to a great entertainer that we all own much happiness to. And I love the POV.
“Over your darkest gloom, You wore a glowing costume.” …… the first (only) set of non-rhyming lines, but perhaps the most to-the-point lines so far in the poem. “Now I know when you played the clown, Your heart was always up and down.” ……. I’m not sure what having an “always up and down heart” is like. I guess depression, which I am glad to say I’ve had very little of in my life, and then not particularly serious depression. thank goodness! ! it’s no wonder someone would want to ‘end it’ if they had to deal with “always up and down’! ! ! ! ! “Let our every single remark, Be one to find and banish dark. Teach by example every young and old mind, How to be truly kind.“ ……….every 10th remark would work wonders is it could banish “dark”. “Poets”, not “Poet’s”, I believe; of course you didn’t say you were quoting a movie title. I’ve seen a few of his movies, including Mrs. Doubtfire and Patch Adams, and he’s never disappointed me. Bicentennial Man made me cry (a few tears) at the end. Patch Adams also caused one or two tears (before the ending) . the poem is free with ‘good thoughts’, but I am too pessimistic about mankind to feel Steve will ever get what he and many others desire. but it is a nice poem. to MyPoemList and to my/our August ‘showcase for PH poets’ on my PH site. thanks Steve AND Robin, and, ok, Koko too. bri :) :)
A fine tribute to a wonderful actor and personality. I was really upset when I read he'd died, such a loss.
Brilliant tribute Stephen, I adored Robin in 'Dead Poet's Society' he was a genius and it is so sad he felt he had to leave this world. You write with such sincerity and compassion for a gentle, complex and shy man it is hard to imagine how he must have felt, but emotional pain is something we all have to deal with, his soft beautiful nature was unable to withstand the terrible pain he was going through. Through his films he shines with joy, energy and his gift to entertain the world!
Outstanding and truly original poem of tribute, with every line speaking from your big heart. A really great piece of work, Stephen - perhaps your finest to date. A*** Many memorable and thought-provoking lines but this one will inspire us all: Keep his 'Poet's Society' alive, Stand up straight and strive. For together we really could, Fill this world with good.
..........I must search for this video....loved reading this wonderful tribute to one of the most beloved stars of television....still I wonder why? ? ?
a great tribute to Robin Williams A great entertainer one of the best
A lovely tribute to Robin Williams. Beautiful lines..... How could I have missed your pain? I saw no sign of hidden rain. Over your darkest gloom, You wore a glowing costume. If only I had seen your plight, And filled your black world with light. Loved reading it. Thanks for sharing. May his soul rest in peace!
Beautiful tribute to a most wonderful person. Your thought of expressing it through Koko is just so heart touching.
Great tribute to a noble soul who made us laugh hiding pain inside. Thank you.
A beautiful tribute to Robin Williams, the great American comedian and director who made the world explode with laughter like Charlie Chaplin! Is it accidental that both of them embraced the same fate? I too watched that video on youtube. It is just amazing to see both the gorilla and the actor tickling each other and roaring into laughter! Finally how they embraced each other as if affirming an undying bond.....! Your idea of writing a poem from Koko's point of view is so remarkable. I feel they felt an affinity transceding all barriers of species and gene! I saw no sign of hidden rain. Over your darkest gloom, You wore a glowing costume. If only I had seen your plight, And filled your black world with light. Beautiful lines!
