Kingfisher! Poem by Denis Martindale

Kingfisher!

The lonesome little birdie perched,
And looked so deep in thought,
Until from his thoughts he emerged,
As no fish had he caught.
And like a million fishermen,
He sighed yet one more sigh,
Yet as he pondered there and then,
At least his wings were dry.

And he was glad there was no rain,
Not one dark cloud above,
And golden sunshine once again,
Indeed, what's not to love?
Then something new had caught his eye,
A big bird caught a fish,
So easily, no need to try,
While he could only wish!

His head began to lower still,
Fatigue had grown and so,
He couldn't summon up the thrill
To watch the waters flow.
Then suddenly, he fell right in,
And caught a fish at last,
Yet how ironic he should win
Before all hopes were past!

The poem is about the magnificent painting
called Kingfisher by the UK wildlife artist,
Stephen Gayford. So here is a new poem.
This time, I am using a font I installed today.
It is called Kingfisher and it looks lovely, too.
