King Of My Palace Poem by Jayita Bhattacharjee

King Of My Palace

You are this heart's charm, and awake it is, in a thousand songs.
Like the sun with faraway light, sometimes in sight,
Sometimes, circled by the clouds, you, too, reside behind the veils.

In this palace of mine, you are the lover, whose name I sing,
For this mouth of mine shall never speak another name.

You are the reason for every ache, you are the blush on sunset sky.
You are the laughter that breaks the sky at dawn,
You are the charm, eternal in lovers' hearts.

You set this heart on fire, and the longing surges.
For every moment brings wonders of light.
In this palace of mine, you are the king of kings,
Who conquered my heart.

An eternal connection, unbroken, will remain,
On my eyelashes, you bring the dew of morn,
And when night falls, you turn my sighs into songs.

So, I am a songmaker on earth, for in your light,
Woken am I to the eternal charm.
In my palace, you are the king
Who brought wealth to my heart.

This heart of mine, I shall never sell to the allure of earth.
O Heart, gather his love-letters in the winds,
for he writes them, one by one, and scatters them in the breeze.

O Heart, remain faithful to this king,
for this love burns every other desire,
every ache into quivering ecstasy.
