Hands may be handsome, but hearts don't match. A poetic gem worth being read multiple times.

(CONT.) 2 - IT IS A VERY FINE POEM. I HOPE YOU DON'T THINK I'VE BEEN CRUEL IN MY COMMENT. and i THINK bullfighting [actually bull-'baiting'-torturing-killing] and cockfighting is still legal 'sport' in some countries. i saw cockfighting along a street in Thailand. I 'LOVE' how you constructed the last stanza. to MyPoemList bri (: p.s. pardon the 'pun', but the title is VERY CATCHY!

1 - Hopefully the pig thought it was just a game, and when its death-moment arrived, it was a very brief moment of discomfort for the pig. yes, it sounds rather 'barbaric', but is …[I think]…but an example of how 'early man' used to live. oh, and an example of some modern-day hunters as well, with rifles and arrows which sometimes don't kill right away. : ( but, do you think of how pigs are herded into a slaughter house and murdered THERE! ? I shudder when I think of a slaughter house where pigs or goats are killed.I stopped eating mutton or chicken long back when as a child I saw killing of a goat from very near.I still eat fish and egg.Perhaps I can can not feel the pain of a fish as much as I feel the pain of a big animal like goat.

The human... who is responsible for all these runnings. One day he will run out from earth.

I am sure that was a very gruesome scene. How can people be so cruel, particularly, when they are in the midst of such natural beauty! ? Human behaviour is indeed most unpredictable. The air of the place should have elevated their hearts to spontaneous kindness. We see just the opposite here.

No wonder that picture clung to your memory. The juxtaposition of a park- -a beautiful place in which to stroll and sit on benches or sit at tables and eat lunch shaded by trees, surrounded by grass and flowers, refreshed by sweet-smelling breezes, watching birds fly overhead or land in the river or pond- - - so relaxing, feeling closer the the Creator of all this, a quiet happiness in our hearts- - - -and this horrid thing happens. The faces of these people chasing a frightened creature must have been ugly- -makes me shudder to imagine. I do eat meat- - but I cringe at the thought of animals' last moments being of terror. We are monsters if we make sport of their dying- - you are such a humane being, my dear Bharati, and many of your poems point out the ways in which mankind is anything but kind. Well done, - -the pace fits right into the pig's panicked scramble to evade and his tiring gait. Makes me shudder and it should. 10+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Nice poem...Thanks for sharing. Cruelty and killing for the pleasure of killing should always be condemned. But Mother Nature always needs to keep things in check, that's why there are, unfortunately, many animals who eat only flesh...

For pleasure Thousands of handsome hands Squeezing The neck of a poor pig Its tongue hanging and eyes protruding? ..quite heart shocking depiction by savagery of man for flesh to quench greed yet revolving around inflorescence of nature steeped in beauty where sanity belies to billow, quite poignant in picturization of reality when struck by throes of gruesome yet visceral fasciculation.thanks for sharing,

Thank you so much for your critical appreciation of the poem.Man is progressing. This progress should be in tune with nature. We should not be callous towards the pain and sufferings of dumb animals.

As I was reading the poem, i could imagine the scene and some point I was struck to imagine the thousands of hands squeezing the neck of a poor pig. But then realizing the emphasis you were trying to give in exaggerating the number of hands; I was moved emphatically ma'am. Certain things doesn't get away so easily, so is this piece of your work which took a shape after seeing the portrait. I mean it couldn't escape your thoughts!

Thank you dear Queeny for reading and appreciating my poem.As you pointed out, the picture of gruesome killing could not escape my thought. I think man is essentially good.Environment plays a great part in shaping his character. The good qualities can be developed through good teachings from childhood.

Thank you so much for appreciating with a sympathetic heart.Killing is always gruesome.I am not a vegetarian. The day I saw killing of a goat I stopped eating meat.As Bri Edwards said in his comments while eating animal food we order from the menu rather than worrying how the animals are raised, harvested or butchered.I am telling about the inhumanity involved when we kill an animal for fun and enjoy the killing.

you did well comparing the 'beautiful' aspects of the park with the aspect you feel was savage. i wonder if all the hands were male and all were handsome. in the U.S. i think hunting (much of it for sport) (and fishing) is a big business. it is certainly more appealing for most people to just order their meat etc off of a menu, or grab it off a grocery store shelf, than to watch how it is raised and harvested and butchered. i (especially) like how you arranged the words of the last stanza. bri ;) now your poem has joined others in my/our July 2016 a showcase for PH poets, found in my list of poems.

Thank you so much for selecting the poem for your July Showcase. In a showcase we keep the pieces that we want to show and also keep some antiques and rare pieces that we feel as our proud possessions. The emotion that arose in me by seeing the picture of the ghastly killing has now penned in this poem.It is my antique piece and this one has made its way to our Showcase.
