Kerala Floods- Nature's Fury Aghast Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Kerala Floods- Nature's Fury Aghast

Rating: 5.0

Nothing can forecast damage
nothing can predict nature's fury
nothing can stop floods from its pathway
nothing can stop deaths and destruction
when sudden and unexpected come those heavy rains
bringing in floods so tough to stop or control.

Floods makes people start to tremble,
sometimes they sit and wonder:
will they survive the impact and the aftermath?
No one can answer that or judge those prognosis;
yet, nature has no eyes to see destruction or poverty
nature has no ears to hear cries and pleas of people
nature has no mind to sense the danger it will cause;
nature keeps performing its dread and damage
whether it is the floods that rush as a reason
or whether it is rains that pour like waterfall incessantly.

Voraciously flood moves by its merciless power
catching everyone in its way and taking them downhill;
whether it is one by one, it keeps reaching life to its end
or whether it is two by two it keeps collapsing houses
and perishing everything in its way
around the streets and around the bends.

And as cities and villages keep overflowing
with flood waters entering their houses and towns,
families keep weeping and fearing the worst;
some have died in those rains and floods
some homes have been washed away like balloons
that move aimlessly in the sky
yet what can mankind do to challenge or negotiate
peace with nature when nature itself is so furious?

So, with silence in their hearts and minds
with tethered and wet clothes on their bodies,
anxious and anguished they wait
as homes have been swept away so callously;
will tomorrow rise and bring in calm
or will nature forget it's children
when the land most green and full of warmth
keeps people wading in those floods with worries,
hoping God and men will show mercy and rescue them.

And as the inevitable situation of floods
has made so many cities and villages,
streets and homes to fall apart,
it has left so many people homeless and hungry;
that I pray to God to give them the courage they most need
so that peace and liveliness returns back in their homes.
