Kerala Calamity And Politics

DOG IN THE MANGER? *
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
to foreign aid, 'no'
that has been our policy
Kerala, you know,
to rebuild- is not easy
think hard-it is quite messy

Latur was rebuilt
by no-nonsense man Pawar
applause with no guilt
in grey cells, our guys, tower
let clueless left, move over

Indians ready
to pay calamity tax
when state is needy
let governments be not lax
if not, they can face the sack
- -tanka
* this is what a Kerala Minister told about GOI for refusing foreign aid.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Kerala State of India has been devastated by unprecedented rains, floods, and consequent loss of lives and destruction. Probably it requires a few thousand crores of rupees to rebuild itself. As a policy Indian Governments do not accept foreign aid during calamities. This has been restated now. But the Kerala's Communist Government is calling this a 'dog in the manger' policy. Indians are ready to put in their mite to see that this beautiful state gets back on its legs!
Latur is a town in Maharashtra where a devastating earthquate during 1995 caused enormous destruction. it was rebuild under the leadership of Sharad Pawar a powerful political leader.This kind of leadership is needed now, to rebuild Kerala.
