Yaami yaami bhaimi........aalakmpadiyode melavaadyaghoshathode..... rings in my ears as Sudevan dances in almost a hundred different styles before Damayanti in sheer abandon. That was a night well spent under the stars in the Shivaratri night frost of my home village. Thanks for evoking such wonderful nostalgia in me (10) .

You have given a beautiful definition to one of the most popular Indian Classical dance forms where acting is equally important !

Farisa, Thank you for the good words. But, have you heard Hiaderaali earlier? He enriched the Kathakali music by his inimitable rendition of the raagas with exemplary manodharma, and such accurate pronunciation of the most difficult Malayalam and Sanskrit words. He simply proved by his music that music is much above, religion, caste, creed, color and language. I worship him.

Hi Aarzoo, Please listen to the recital of Kathakali Sangeetam by Late Shri Kalaamandalam Haideraali, one of the renowned exponents of Kathakali music. The most important thing about Sh Haideraali is that, he is a Muslim and Kathakali is essentially a Hindu ritualistic dance-music performance. And to learn the Kathakali music, you have to learn Sanskrit. Sh Haideraali excelled in all these and earned respect from the most devout hindus. Pl listen to the music and write back.
