Kaguvi Street Blues Poem by Deluke Muwanigwa

Kaguvi Street Blues

Kaguvi Street Blues

Went round to Kaguvi Street around ten
Downtown Harare to collect my car fan
Temperatures this time of the year high thirties
Making myself and my car hot and thirsty
Brought my cooling fan to have new brushes fitted
To ensure heat doesn't get my car temperature lifted

Kaguvi street is where car spares are sold
If not streetwise your troubles will increase many fold
Money counting touts shouting
Fake mechanics leaving customers doubting
Pentecostal churches competing to be heard by God
Robbing their pious congregants of their gold

It was my lucky Sunday saved of despair
Found my car fan already repaired
My auto mechanic tested it for me
Showed me the worn out brushes he yanked free
I walked back to my little Honda Fit
Street hawks asking if my fan was already fixed.

Drove out of town from Kaguvi Street blues
Under the watchful eye of Kaguvi Street crews
Kaguvi Street cruise
Kaguvi Street blues

Oh that's great. Finally you escaped and managed to get good results. Thank-you.
