Enough like in a word or action,
Yet never enough to drive a deed.
For we never have this hope in us,
To drive us to future actions unknown,
Yet we can go on, with just this.
Let it be known that one who hoped
Did walk on and got it for they hopped
Just to prove that they could cope,
Through situations as they flocked
And ended up at some level unknown.
Let it be known that we move on,
For not to do so is to lose all,
For no future can be held in a cup,
And seen for what it is.
Bees do it in a swarm, what we do
In groups. If we could hold up a hand
And lift each other's hope to the sky,
We would all land over there,
Where the future throws us roughshod,
With wrinkles nicely laid out,
Like words on a page.
I see in us all a tomorrow,
Full of hope we never knew,
Yet saw through tears at times,
And also laughter unusual,
For out giggles sounded like mockery,
To those who never thought we would.
For arriving at one place is taking
Off for another.
Meet me at the pedestals
Of this life. Where the steps have cracks,
That make my heels sink, and leave me shaking,
Sometimes with laughter and at others with fear.
Then you know what hope can do. For my heels
Will tell it all. For there will be no rubber
But metal at the base of it all,
Showing I hoped on and hopped along.
