Jewels From Upanishads: 1.3 In Harness Hope To Live Hundred Years



Only in harness, work gears,
Hope to live here hundred years,
To them that so believe,
That, karmas would not cleave,
There's no ‘ther way, it appears.

Here is the transliteration of the verse from Isha Upanishad:

kurvan eva iha karmāņi jijīviśhet shatam samāh |
evam tvayi na anyathā itah astina karma lipyate nare ||Isha 2 ||

kurvan eva: only by doing; iha: here (in this world): karmāņi: karma, duties, obligations; jijīviśhet: one should wish to live, carry on with the life; shatam samāh: (for)a hundred years, full life; evam tvayi: for such a one as you (doing so): na anyathā: no other mode
itah asti:other than this be (there is): na karma: (by which)no karma; lipyate: may stain, taint; nare: to (such a)man.
