Jesus Is Alive Poem by James Jennings

Jesus Is Alive

Jesus Is Alive

I question Mary's story about seeing our Lord at the tomb
She told us what He said to her before he disappeared
Then he appeared to two followers in Emmaus
They cried when He broke bread like He did the night before He died
All of a sudden light chased shadows from the room
I turned around and came face to face with Jesus

The good news is that He has risen today
The scriptures have been fulfilled like He said they would
I struggled with what I saw cause I watched Him die
I stood there as He suffered on that cross

For forty days He walked with us giving us hope
He forgave me for denying that I knew who He was
Finally the day came when He led us to the mount
Then we watched as He told us to go to the world
Spread the good news but first wait in the city until we received our gift
Then He ascended into Heaven to sit at the right hand of God

So we waited until the Holy Spirit came down
Then we knew we were ready to tell the world the good news
Lead so many to Jesus and baptize them in His love
We went throughout the world paying a heavy price
Most of us were killed for refusing to denounce Jesus as the Messiah
