It's Just A Bunch Of Wishes Poem by Phillip Nine Mafunga

It's Just A Bunch Of Wishes

I wish I could put words to the picture
Words describing this particular bus journey
The year, the month, and the day
Where from and the final destination
I wish I could describe the many places it passed through
With vendors; men, women with children on their backs, boys n' girls alike
Lining under the windows with their various wares shouting,
'mango pano, nzungu dzino naka ka idzi amai, chibage chakagochwa'
I wish I could tell you about funny drunken passengers, their stories, and singing
I wish I could tell you about the bus conductor and the driver
About the luggage loader and his theatrics and dangerous stunts
I wish I had time to tell you about happy schoolchildren, waving at the passing dusty bus
Of bus stops n' their names; pamuhacha, pachuru, pa cross, paNijo
However, well it's just a bunch of wishes
