I need to write short and sweet,
Maybe cram it into four lines.
A simple message about writing,
Keeping it within strict confines.
That four lines has become five,
And still no meat on poetry bones.
That gist I will have to reveal,
So far just double talk unknows.
Now I'm kicking off the third verse,
Keeping reader's waiting in the dark.
The final verse will tie things up,
My point reaching its final benchmark.
It's so easy to write long-winded,
Verses in which words simply drown.
The trick is editing and condensing.
Not to give readers the run-around.
