LAST RESPONSE: Finally the conclusion is that she speaks in cold terms of the way science and scientists would handle love and contrasts that handling with her own. It simply needs to exist in the world, in the "present" and that will suffice
This poem goes about LOVE which is my favourite theme in poems. The poetess only wants to tell us, the readers, that love is not to be compared as a scientific subject. Love needs to be understood and it is in the present tense. Vert clear message by the great Poetess
Most deserving as the Modern POem Of The Day! 5 Stars full
Indeed, the present tense IS absolutely better than the past tense, the present tense makes the poem still be directed to you as the reader, partly of complete, your message has reached me, dear poetess Margaret Atwood!
Captivating lines of poetry with message well conveyed
The poetess appears to be a type of Iyan Rand and her theory of objectivism. Well deserved modern poem of the day.
This is a very sexy and direct approach to the issue of intimate body contact which has no rules or regulations. Through all the wonderful females of my life I have the feeling what this poet means. Thanks for sharing.
you are not my doctor you are not my cure, nobody has that power, you are merely a fellow/traveller.... a very fine poem. tony
Love is not a profession genteel or otherwise.....wow greatly characterised the love by the great poetess.....love has immense dimension in human character and feelings by which human is human.... great poem penned....
Wonderful poem by Margaret Atwood in which she, rather astutely, makes the case that love can not be conflated with science. According to Atwood, it is very much a living, breathing experience in ' the present tense'. that does not have to be continually analysed, ' or washed or cauterized.'
which needs neither your approval nor your suprise which does not need to be made legal which is not against a disease a beautiful poem
The LAST PART: I cannot define this as a soliloquy, but I must keep indeed the present tense and permit me, please, this last part. Thank you so much for your most valuable advice and my favorit theme: Love. Absolutely, Love is not a profession, genteel or otherwise. Thank you for these valuable words, which I regard as a most important advice. This present tensed poem makes my day, dear poetess Margaret.
THIRD PART: Indeed, dear poetess, it IS and needs to be said and said, permit me to cite your valuable last two lines here, thank you so much. My sincerest thanks for this most thought provoking dialogue. The very best wishes from Sylvia Frances Chan from the Netherlands.
