I liked this poem of yours more than your Tape-Mobile which your uncle invited me to read. Great going. All the best Batt. I want to give you a 10 for this write but I can't locate the rating scale which usually appears at the end of the poem page.
A thank you for your comments, Madathil, and glad this inspired thought. It is a story I wrote for my father, in appreciation of his single word about God.
No one says I believe I had a great grand-father just because there is no one around who has seen that great grandpa. Everyone knows he/she had a great grand-father because that person's very existence is proof for the fact that a great grandpa had existed. In a similar vein, for your dad, his own arrival into a world, which he didn't create, was sufficient proof for the existence of God.
When your dad said " real" , I am sure he didn't mean it as a belief. I would assume that he knew (not believed) God exists. A belief is subject to correction on production of contrary evidence - like you can say I believe there is water on the moon. That is a belief which can be corrected later if no trace of water is found on the moon.
I knew I'd never need to defend my beliefs with Pop or anyone else—after that 4 word discussion. And suddenly, whether or not God was real, would never again be relevant. Only belief and its respect, was relevant. - - - - - Thanks for sharing this wonderful poem.
Batt - sorry to hear about your dad and appreciate the poems you have shared.
