Is Elephant Not A Part Of The Community? Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

Is Elephant Not A Part Of The Community?

The elephant, strong and wise,
A symbol of grace in many people's eyes,
But is it really part of the community?
Or just a tool for corruption's opportunity?

For when politicians seek to gain,
They use the elephant for their own selfish game,
Promising change and progress to all,
But in reality, it's just a grand downfall.

Oh how the elephant is used as a shield,
To protect those who refuse to yield,
Their pockets lined with dirty cash,
Leaving the community in a state of rash.

They parade the elephant for all to see,
But behind closed doors, it's just a mockery,
For in their hands, it's just a ploy
To manipulate and distract from their corrupt joy.

As the elephant roams the streets,
The community suffers, its cries discreet,
For who dares to challenge this mighty beast?
When those in power are feeding off its feast.

It's time to open our eyes and see,
The elephant is not part of the community,
It's a pawn in a game of greed,
As corruption continues to breed.

So let us not be fooled by their deceit,
And demand accountability, for it is our right to meet
The elephant may be big, but we are strong,
And together, we can right the wrong.
