Internet Dating Poem by Keith Elliott

Internet Dating

It started as a wink
A flirt and a shared link
Too far away too remote
Too distant you did not get my vote

But in the ballot of life
Further thoughts were rife
That another consideration be made
When her portraits were displayed

Contact had to be made
For now, it had become clear
That another level was possibly near
Even though she lived in Portslade

So, we agreed to finally meet
In a neutral location to be safe
I looked around and saw faces and numerous feet
But not the girl I was supposed to greet

A tap on my shoulder was what I got
Who announced I am she that you seek
I turned around and there she was
75 and probably smoked 600 cigarettes a week

In an instant my dreams were shattered
How could she mislead with such a lie
How stupid, how naïve was I
To think that trust was all that mattered

Fantasies are what we crave
Reality was abruptly vivid and clear
Ask for a photo from their passport next time
Until then don't go near
