Raj. I've also written a poem on insomia (not yet posted) , and can immediately connect with your interpretation of the 'beast.' It's good to know how others are dealing with such problem.

it isn't mere pain even happiness and excess weariness and sometimes when we finish a job to heart's content...even these don't allow us a wink. that's what my experience tells me...i wrote 'haikus of insomnia' the night i couldn't take a wink tho' there's no despair or pain but just overflowing energies!

This is an excellent poem.Your description of insomnia is so realistic.Morpheus the god of sleep is unkind indeed.Thank you for the advice on how to get to sleep..........counting ship doesn't work, i know!
