In The Shadow Of The Magic Words Poem by April Humason

In The Shadow Of The Magic Words

Maybe I'm being dramatic, but my heart feels erratic,
Should I be ecstatic? Love's touch can be enigmatic,
For the one lost in heartache static, emotions problematic.

I want to jump in, head over heels, let love begin,
But the L word has me running, fear creeping in,
Forever is a big deal, commitment a challenge to feel.

You want me till the end, but I don't want to pretend,
My heart doesn't mend, wounds I can't amend,
Heartache keeps no friends, it's a pain that never ends.

So the magic three words have me caught, feelings fraught,
While you're ecstatic, my doubts cause me to backtrack,
Making my day tragic, lost in emotions enigmatic,
As we live in this static, love's potential still in the attic.
