IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD
MATLOOB BOKHARI

In the kingdom of God - sunshine, moonlight and starry sky
Life was flowing with peace, music, joy and dance
Poets, painters, musicians and dreamers were
rejoicing life
Sweetness in delicate droplets, whistle in wind and ripples in streams
All were singing glory of Allah with thankful hearts
Praying with balmy breeze, babbling brooks and swaying flowers
No preacher, no hate speech, no sect and no violence
Counting others' sins was by law an unpardonable offence
Sinners and saints were rocking together in the cradle of love.
Flowers of mercy, smile and peace were blossoming everywhere
Sports, art, books and education had united all in the kingdom
Essence of faith was love all! Help all! forgive all!
Love was smiling with balmy breeze in the soft sunshine
Ecstasy was dancing with beakers of wine in the luminous sky
Entire society, in tight hugs, was pursuing peace
No widow in distress, no orphan in hunger, no human sadness
Love, mercy and fairness were ruling the kingdom of dream,
Ah! In the kingdom of Satan! lust of flesh and greed of heart
Lying hypocrisy made the entire land a sad world of sorrow
The unholy alliance of crown in silk and clown in cloak
Plucked the eyes of reason and closed minds with the gospel of hate
Masked actors in the cloak of faith fooled the people
Divided oneness into sects and used faith to justify the unjust rule
Lines of truth were buried under the debris of interpretations
He who did not walk in step with them was ruthlessly slain
Frenzy in rage robed love in heart, light in soul and peace in mind
Chilled the blood in veins, made the earth red with blood
No water lilies, no noble art, no moving melody and no whirling dance
Dark, dark, dark! The aura of fake purity and dwellers of hellfire
Plowed evil, sowed tears and played with human skulls
The eternal rebel amazed at the clown's art of tempering the scriptures
The wild animals lamented over the unlimited cruelty
Hopelessly and helplessly, I left the unjust and unkind land
Meditated in the pathless woods with butterflies, songbirds and fireflies
The sunbeams, raindrops and moonlight whispered in my heart
'O generations of Adam, you are a single soul
Here is a place of a short visit; follow not vain desires
Live for others, be good and kind with humankind
Sing hymns of peace with air, clouds and rain
Serve like moon, stars and sun; love like a rippling water
Sprinkle the colours of rainbow in the whole kingdom of man
Always, always - smile always: Always, always- forgive always
Practice peace more and more: help the helpless more and more
Blessed are those who fear Allah, resist tyranny and give alms in prayer
Blessed are those who have wealth of contentment in their hearts
Blessed are those who refresh the tree of freedom with their blood'
