IN THE HEAVEN OF FREEDOM
MATLOOB BOKHARI
COUNTRY: PAKISTAN
In the dreary desert of cheat and fraud
Where there was no fear of God
Where freedom lovers were abused, tortured, imprisoned, persecuted and hanged
Where slaves remained silent on inequality, injustice and poverty
Where wind moaned on hungry babes, empty bellies, broken hearts
Suffering in the storm, in the whirlwind and in the earth quake
Where despots dumped donations in the foreign lands for their posterity
Where dogma was God, religion was counting others'misdeeds
Where turbans in the polluted garments used interpretations of Scriptures
To imprison everyone under the yoke of sin
Where law was the worst source of tyranny
Where all were touched by corruption, all were slaves to greed
Where all fell short of God's glorious standards
All had tongues but could not speak
There, I met a revolutionary leader, Musa whose tongue was torn out
I asked him why and how his tongue was took out from his mouth?
He replied: , 'We are living In terribly unjust land, Here, we have a cruel tyrant, Pharaoh
Who crushed people to the earth and built Pyramid of Gold with our blood and bone
His cruel rule chilled the blood in the veins of commoners
And made the men of fine genius mad
Ruled the people with the help of sword, poison and folded lies
I ploughed the land of minds; spoke truth; spoke about human rights,
The cruel oppressor tried to tame my tongue
But I never gave in, I never surrendered, I never bowed
I continued my march in the heaven of freedom
I dedicated my tongue to earn the good days for my countrymen
I dedicated my tongue for those whose dignity and identity were erased by the cruel king
Here, I am painting the sadness, sighs of the slaves and songs of freedom on the wings of butterflies
Even after my death, my thoughts will shine like sunlight in the specter of thousands of memories
And give tongue to those living in the slave system.'
